The RISE Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Summit: A spotlight on the role of CHWs to advance equity

The virtual RISE Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Summit, held May 19-20, will feature timely, thought-provoking discussion curated specifically for Medicare Advantage and managed care professionals striving to promote DEI in the workplace and their communities. Among a lineup of hot-button subjects, this year’s summit will feature a session on a highly requested topic: the role of community health workers (CHW) in advancing equity.

WellCare of North Carolina’s Thomesha Johnson, community resource coordination, supervisor, Jasmine Radcliff, housing resource specialist, and Jasmine Smith, manager, care coordination, will kick off the second day of the conference, Tuesday, May 20, at 10:10a.m., with the anticipated session.

Throughout the session, Johnson, Radcliff, and Smith will review successful CHW programs in underserved communities, discuss funding and policy support to expand CHW programs, and highlight the role of CHWs to address social determinants of health and improve outcomes.

“Community health workers are the bridge between health care systems and the people we serve. At this year’s RISE DEI Summit, we’re excited to share how WellCare of North Carolina's CHW program is making a real impact in underserved communities, driving better health outcomes, and advancing equity,” said Smith.

The conversation will be one of many timely topics on this year’s agenda. The summit will feature 10 sessions led by 15 esteemed speakers.

Other session topics will include:

  • Bridging policy and practice for underserved communities
  • Data-driven approaches to achieving health equity
